Stephen's profile

I’ve always been an artist. I just never realized it till I was 27. Music has been the primary form of self expression in my life and over the fast few years, I have turned my passion for it into a new craft which has opened up a whole new world of creative opportunities. Luthiery combines the areas of design, woodworking, engineering and music. The apsect I enjoy most about guitar building is the same thing every creative mind strive towards, the ability to create something completely unique and inspiring. The ability to leave your creative mark on the world is what keeps me motivated and passionate for creating functional pieces of art.

The idea of functional art wasn’t something I thought about a lot until I started designing and building instruments. The music they make when played is undoubtedly a form of art and expression but the instruments themselves have over time turned into their very own art form. They are now preserved, auctioned, collected and displayed just like paintings. Being able to pick one of them up to play a fleeting melody is almost just the sweet icing on the cake.

I do my best to make each and everyone of my guitars a truly unique instrument. The designing process has become one of the more enjoyable parts of building. I really like drawing lines that flow together and that keep a consistent theme throughout the instrument. Inlay design and execution is also an area I try to focus on. It adds adds a definite character and personality to each project. Some time over the last year I really fell in love with the craft of designing and building handmade instruments. Now I feel it is my purpose is to continue creating unique instruments that are enjoyed by the people playing and listening to them. Thank you for your consideration. - Steve B.
