After a month-long visit to Miami in early 2015, my work took a leap into another place altogether----more fun, lively, colorful, energetic, even frenetic, sometimes mythic, ancient-site based, rowdy and raucous.  The natural world shows itself on occasion but only in imaginary guises. None of this work was made by outward observation but only by seeking inward and remembering. To enhance the immediacy I chose paper and mixed media, often gouache, pen and ink, cray pas and whatever else might be available.  I still can say as I did about my earlier paintings of meditative landscapes (1995-2015) that I seek to make color and lines sing  and to make a brush both a drum beat and a caress. In my choice of imagery I continue to find the beauty and grace in so-called ugliness, damaged people and places. Now Anne Griffith Studios refers not only to the two rooms in my warehouse live/work space in the sky, but to kitchens and bedrooms wherever I may travel and stay for awhile.
