Seon young Park is a storyteller speaking with the language of visual materials.
She was born in 1987, Seoul, growing up in a family of artists, with her dancer mother and pianist sister. Her mother told them fairy tales of Hans Anderson everyday that enriched her emotions.

Yellow paintingI explored how changes of spatiality and function impact the viewer’s experience of painting. I made a frame by using a rigid and thick maple wood, and then I attached foldable legs to the back of the painting. After drawing the abstract painting on the desk, I applied a topcoat.
Life of painting
For an attempt to escape from the tradition of exhibit painting, I made canvas that looks like a wood doll by connecting the upper canvas to stretcher bar legs. They can walk out from the wall. Now they seemed to achieve freedom from the nature of painting.

LIFE OF PAINTING
These series of works are from the thinking, what is life of painting or what is life of human with art.
I'm making video based on the object I combined. The elements become the characters or players in the scene and set about engaging in relationships. I give object a venue to expand their emotional resonances. I seek to change or expand the emotional valence of these objects. I bind these objects using thread, plaster, and other found materials. Simultaneously, binding and altering the narratives inherent in these elements. Connecting the story and the objects with the camera angle, I tangle the reality and imagination.
Children are the pure creator who can make their own world from the nature to the objects. That’s what I do but with emotions rather than material itself.

ABOUT HOME AND HOMELESSNESS
Project 837 is an art project designed to start a conversation about definitions of home and homelessness. “Home” conjures up diverse emotions, feelings, and concepts, which are rooted in a person’s identity. More specifically, Project 837 seeks to challenge definitions of homelessness while also raising awareness about some of the realities of Baltimore’s homeless population. The number 837 refers to the square footage that would be available to individuals in Baltimore if all of the vacant housing were transformed into housing for the homeless. Partners in this exhibition include Project PLASE, which provides essential housing and support services to homeless citizens, and VisArts in Rockville, MD. This project involves artists, researchers and individuals who are interested in home and homeless issues.

donated objects for homeless (blankets, candles, threads, chair, sponges) / variable sizes / 2015I participated in an art project at the PROJECT PLASE baltimore MD, which is designed to start a conversation about definitions of home and homelessness. Imagining the people from the stacks of donated or dumped objects in the abandoned elementary school, I try to visualize memory of home that I inspired by used objects in school. Gathering the used clothes and furnitures, I bind them into the soft, feminine space with white thread.

This old schoolhouse is transforming. Built in the 1800’s then closed in 2010, it is now a part of Project PLASE, which is a non-profit organization created to serve the homeless providing direct services and housing, while advocating to change to resolve some of the many the causes of poverty and homelessness.
Park rejuvenate each room she work in, providing new life to the space, offering a new take on the reality of what could be. She push this concept to the brim, allowing her dreams to overflow into the imaginations of their viewers, making all visitors conceptual collaborators with the envirornments developed at the schoolhouse. Her work coexists with the space, creating new opportunity for engagement in this place that was left in history for a time due to unfortunate socioeconomic constraints. Her practice exists in transitory states. Her work is focused through processes of intentional experimentation — interrelating disparate objects with contextual clues found at the site. Engaged in this site-specific, methodical production, manipulate the variety of materials found at Project PLASE, repurposing and re-formatting objects and environments to craft visual poetry.
Dedicated time at the space helped to facilitate the deep connection the artists had with Project PLASE. The work on display is a direct record of the experience and growth each artist obtained while living in the space for many hours a day. Months were spent on-site learning the environment and the materials. The artists sought to capture both the physicality and spirit of PLASE in their work.
