Jim is the founding Artistic Director of the Run of the Mill Theater Co. in Baltimore, Md, where credits include Miss Julie, Icarus, The Bald Soprano, and the world premiere of 13 Christs by Erik Ehn. In 2007, Run of the Mill was named Baltimore?s Best Theater Company. He is a co-creator of ?The Variations Project?, an annual theatrical event that has won multiple awards including Baltimore?s Best Production of 2006. He co-founded and co-produced World Premiere Weekend, a new play festival in Orange County, Ca, that premiered plays by Neil LaBute and Brooke Berman (both of which he directed), as well as Charles Mee, Erik Ehn, Jamie Pachino, and over thirty other writers from across the country, in spaces as varied as traditional theaters, outdoor plazas, stairwells, and public restrooms.

Baltimore/DC credits include plays at Artscape, Theatre Project, Spotlighters, Vagabond Theater, Silver Spring Stage, the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, and Company 13, and he has thrice directed for the Maryland Young Playwrights Festival at CENTERSTAGE. West coast credits include assistant director/assistant dramaturg for Cornerstone Theater?s A Holtville Night?s Dream, as well as directing A Body of Water at Ark Theater.

He holds an MFA in directing from UC Irvine where his productions included The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, columbinus, R.U.R., and Book of Tink. He has assistant directed at CENTERSTAGE, the Utah Shakespearean Festival, and for the world premiere of Richard Greenberg?s The Injured Party at South Coast Repertory.

Recently he spent almost a month in Ecuador as part of Dramatic Adventure Theater?s ?ACTion: Ecuador?, where he co-created and directed an original piece that was presented in Ecuador and off-off-Broadway. His recent collaboration, At Water?s Edge: Confessions of an Obsessive Mind, was presented as part of the 2010 Flying Solo Festival at Open Stage of Harrisburg.

He and his productions have won several awards including Baltimore?s Best Production of 2006 (Variations on Fear), the Kennedy Center Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Direction (Fertile Ground), Baltimore City Paper?s Top 10 Plays (2005 - Variations on Desire, 2006 - Icarus), and the GBTA Best Experimental Production (2005 - Variations on Desire and 2006 - Variations on Fear).
