  • Donkey Head
    Donkey Head

This sculpture is part of a series of in-progress steel and nylon sculptures based on objects I've collected throughout my life. The steel rods are used to create three-dimensional drawings from memory and photo reference, while the nylon resembles skin, it allows light to pass through, creating a hollow form that, for me, signifies absence and recalls death.

  • Ode to My Silence
    Ode to My Silence

Part of a series of sculptures I started during the pandemic while taking nature walks. I collected pieces of wood that to me resembled the human body, and disassembled materials that had accumulated in my life, like jewelry and fabrics, to create assemblages that were tied to memories and parts of my identity. This particular one honors a time in my life where I had to silence myself often for survival.

Steel and Nylon Series

In a series of steel and nylon sculptures, based on objects I’ve collected, I use steel rod to create three-dimensional “drawings” from memory that form a skeletal structure upon which the nylon can be applied. The use of steel, known for its industrial use on mass scale, rendered into the feminine and personal, references the ways that mass produced objects become imbued with personal meaning by their collectors. Through a process that is reflexive and experimental, the nylon serves multiple functions: As a membrane, its twists, folds, and stitching resemble skin, entrails, sutures, while holding space and allowing light to pass through. The hollowness of the form becomes an empty vessel referencing absence or death, and the ways we use objects to live beyond our bodies. I currently have one complete (Donkey Head) and four more in progress.

Wood Diaries

I began this series during the pandemic while taking nature walks. I started collecting pieces of wood that reminded me of the human body, disassembling things that had accumulated throughout my life, like old jewelry and fabric, and combined them into assemblages that recalled deeply personal memories and aspects of my identity.

Object Portraits

In my childhood household, where objects were treated as family, the ink "object portraits" I am now producing have been a nod to the wall of gold-framed family portraits with which I grew up. In my drawings, the context of color and setting are removed, leaving the viewer with enough information to see that the object is cherished by someone, but without the full context of the relationship, as we often experience when we are struck by an object in a second-hand store, estate sale, or even a trash heap.

Digital Paintings

For my digital paintings, I start with a basic form of an object as a springboard, then turn away from the object to complete the painting, and allow moods, thoughts, and motifs arise from my subconscious and complete the composition. My experience with oil and ink painting influences how I use the digital medium. The final pieces are displayed as archival, limited edition prints.

Parts of A Whole

Parts of A Whole was created in collaboration with artist Erin Wheary in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the majority of the Swarthmore College campus working remotely in many different locations, and International students unable to travel to visit family, Erin and I collected geographic coordinates from Swarthmore College faculty, students, and staff. These coordinates were laser engraved on hexagonal tiles of blue edge-glow acrylic, assembled in clusters in a single installation, and hung in Singer Hall. The installation remains a reminder of the collaboration between community members during this challenging time.
